About Us
This community of family and friends whose heritage is complimented by its diverse population is unique in its birth, location and goals set by each individual and the community as a whole. It's culture, faith, history and subsistence lifestyle was brought over from the village of Afognak, after the tidal wave following the Good Friday earthquake of 1964 destroyed it.
We live a traditional way of life that encourages and accepts progress. Our community is one that incorporates the traditional Native way of life with the innovations of the 21st century; a community where each individual is respected and neighbors help neighbors.
The goal of the Port Lions Traditional Tribal Council, a governing body of Port Lions, is to promote, strengthen, foster pride and self-determination for its members and their descendents in the areas of cultural heritage and traditions; to preserve and promote the education, physical, economical and social well-being of Native individuals, family and community; to prevent and overcome racial prejudice and to restore self-governance.
